SOS: Organic Chemists in Germany Can Apply for Funded Access to Science of Synthesis

Stuttgart, 1 May, 2026 – Thieme has signed a three‑year national agreement with FID Chemie – Fachinformationsdienst Chemie (Chemistry Information Service) to provide synthetic organic chemists nationwide with access to the SOS Platform, Thieme’s reference database for synthetic chemistry.

Thieme has signed a national agreement with the newly established FID Chemie – Fachinformationsdienst Chemie (Chemistry Information Service). This agreement allows researchers affiliated with publicly funded institutions in Germany to apply for access to Science of Synthesis at no cost to themselves.

The project is funded by the DFG – Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation) through its program “Fachinformationsdienste für die Wissenschaft” (specialized information services for the scientific community). It is part of the newly established FID Chemie program.

The Science of Synthesis Platform has been selected as the first product to be offered within this new national service for chemistry, underlining its scientific relevance and reputation.

What was agreed?

Under the agreement, Thieme will provide nationwide access to Science of Synthesis to researchers affiliated with publicly funded institutions in Germany. Registered users may gain access to the expert-curated, full-text knowledge platform that helps chemists efficiently design and evaluate synthetic routes through authoritative methods, practical experimental procedures, and advanced structure- and reaction-based search.

How does access work?

Chemists working at eligible, publicly funded institutions in Germany can apply for access to SOS through the FID Chemie.
